PREREQUISITE: An enthusiasm to learn new skills for their fiber world. Ability to stand for 10 minutes at a time.

STUDENTS TO BRING: None. Instructor provides all materials. Helpful to wear old clothes that may get stained or wet and closed-toe shoes. An older apron maybe desired. We will be outside some so plan for inclement weather. Feel free to bring your own leaves, flowers and seeds to try Leaves work best if collected in the fall and dried when tannins are high. Flowers work best if they have strong colors like red or purple. For best imprint of flowers consider Carol’s other class, Botanical Printing-Heat Press Method on Friday.
DESCRIPTION: Come learn how to get prints from nature onto fabric. Using leaves, flowers and seeds you will learn to print onto cotton and silk with the steam bundle method. Using pre-mordanted fabric many samples will be completed to learn the methodology, one which you can do at home. With handouts, demos and practice the ins and outs of botanical printing will be discussed. A final project will be a fat-quarter off cotton, silk scarf or cotton apron. Carol will bring leaves, flowers and seeds that work best. Students should feel free to bring their own to try.
