PREREQUISITE: All knitters and skill levels are welcome in this class! Learn to knit Irish Aran Islands cables, or improve your existing cabling technique.
MATERIAL FEES: $25 (cash, at the beginning of class) for the knitting kit, which includes 80 grams of the limited edition hand-dyed wool yarn and a two-page printed Knitting Jenny pattern (designed by Jennifer Daley) to create a unique three-strand braided cabled hat, pictured below.
STUDENTS TO BRING:
- 2.5mm, 16-inch circular knitting needle (for the ribbing)
- 4.0mm, 16-inch circular knitting needle (for the main hat cabling)
- Stitch markers
- Cabling needle or double-pointed needle approximately 4.0mm. If you are new to cabling, Jennifer suggests arriving to class with the Clover brand “shepherd’s crook” needle for cabling.
A note about the wool:
All cable hat kits begin with 80 grams of natural white wool, which was then hand-dyed. Each ball is 40 grams.
The finished hat weighs 66 grams. There is enough wool in the 80 gram kit to knit the hat longer or larger, if preferred. Or, a small pompon can be made to adorn the crown.
