DESCRIPTION: Learn how to make Skinnfells – beautiful handmade sheepskin blankets with decorative patterns. A traditional Scandinavian handcraft technique with long history in Sweden & Norway. You will learn basic hand sewing techniques and how to use wood block printing to personalize your own project. Class time will allow for you to practice new techniques before applying them to your own skinnfell. We will cover basic knowledge such as selection of sheepskins and other material for hand sewing purposes and you will return home with skills useful for a wide variety of sheepskin / leather craft. Each student will finish their own 2 sheepskin Skinnfell.

Anette Karlsson - Garcia

Dr Anette Karlsson-Garcia is a Swedish skinnfell maker and artist. She is a veterinarian and graduated from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences 1998. Nowadays living in Michigan, she raises Gotland sheep with her family. Anette has spent many years working professionally with Scandinavian skinnfells (sheepskin coverlets) and has shown her work at several judges art shows around the US. She has teached many students about the art and craft of handsewing in sheepskin. Participants in her classes can expect a hands-on learning experience mixed with practical tips and tricks to improve their skills. When she’s not working with sheep or sewing projects, you will most likely find her with a bow and arrows in hand. She is a recurve archer and compete on the national level in archery.
