DESCRIPTION: This workshop is designed as an intro or a refresher to traditional wicker basketry techniques. This project highlights continuous weaving techniques using 2 and 3 weavers. Your choice of round and flat weaver combinations as well as combinations of hard and soft fibers in a range of colors and textures allows for unique pattern variations. We will discuss how the number of spokes determines the overall pattern. Spokes will be drilled and inserted into a wooden “bowl” base (by instructor before class) due to time constraints but multiple methods to create bases will be demonstrated. Use of molds or forms will be discussed but this project will be woven free hand. Baskets will be topped with a round reed border. Finished project may be embellished with sticks, vines, buttons, shells, pods, etc. A variety of models will highlight how one can adapt this basic project for future baskets
