INSTRUCTOR: Linda Lugenbill
CATEGORY: Basketry
SKILL LEVEL: All
PREREQUISITE: No
MATERIAL FEES: $30 covers all materials, handouts, and tools for shared use. Students could bring old towel, an apron, craft scissors, small basin, and an awl. Do not buy any of these tools if you do not already have them. I will have my tool box for shared use. Please wear work clothes as working with the wet palm sheaths is messy. Also, feel free to take photos during class.
STUDENTS TO BRING: N/A I provide everything needed for this workshop. All materials will be soaked and ready for use in class. Students will be able to choose the materials they wish to use.
DESCRIPTION: Following the path of traditional folded birch bark containers, this workshop utilizes soaked and pliable palm sheaths as a modern fiber choice. Colorful waxed linen will be our stitching material. This is a fun class where every project is successful and unique. Many options will be discussed and many workshop samples will feature variations we might encounter. Each student will have a large palm sheath to cut and fold and manipulate and stitch as they desire. Stitch variations will be presented. The finished piece will be embellished with a choice of natural pods, vines, leaves, beads, buttons, etc.
